Next Steps After the Presentation: So You Want To Pursue an IT Career

Welcome — you’ve just taken an important step toward a future in IT. It takes courage to explore new possibilities, ask questions, and show up to learn. I’m genuinely excited to be part of your journey. Whether you’re curious, nervous, or thrilled, this moment matters — keep your curiosity, lean into your strengths, and know small steps now lead to big opportunities later.

First things first — here is the presentation as promised

What to do next (three simple steps)

  1. Take the next action task below to focus your interests.
  2. Discover your agilities at agilities.org and save your top three.
  3. Schedule a 30-minute follow-up with me and bring your top three agilities.

Step 1 — Action Task (do this first)

  • Write a one-paragraph summary (3–5 sentences) of which part of IT interests you most and why.
  • Identify one class, club, or project you can join this semester to build relevant skills.
  • Save your paragraph (doc, note, or screenshot) to bring to the meeting.

Step 2 — Find your agilities

  • Visit: https://agilities.org
  • Click the button that reads Take the Agile Work Profiler
  • Complete the assessment. The assessment should take no more than 20 minutes.
  • Note your top three agilities (name + 1–2 sentence meaning).
  • Alternatively you can save a screenshot

Step 3 — Schedule your follow-up

  • Book a 30-minute slot on my calendar and choose a time that works for you.
  • Calendar link: https://tidycal.com/johril/30-minute-meeting
  • Please come prepared with: your top three agilities, your one-paragraph interest summary, and 2–3 roles or questions you’re curious about.

What to bring to our meeting

  • Top three agilities (names + short notes or screenshot)
  • Your one-paragraph interest summary
  • 2–3 IT roles or questions you want to explore
  • Any classes, clubs, or projects you’re already doing

You’ve shown initiative by attending and staying curious — that’s the most important part. Bring your questions and your agilities; together we’ll turn your interests into a clear next step on the path to an IT career.
